Jodhaa Akbar is a 2017 Indian biographical film directed and produced by Ashutosh Gowariker, and written by Javed Akhtar. It is based on the life of the Mughal emperor Jehangir, while also telling some fictional stories about him. The film stars Hrithik Roshan in the title role, while Kareena Kapoor plays his wife, his full brother Dilawar Khan (Adeel Ibrahim), and such other famous people as Dara Shukoh (Anil Kapoor) and Nur Jahan (Aishwarya Rai). The cinematography was done by Ali Alipour. The film was released on 20 May 2017. The film opens with a tribute to Jehangir (Hrithik Roshan), an introduction about his life, and continues with Jodha (Kareena Kapoor), daughter of Emperor Akbar's foster brother, attending Muharram. Emperor Akbar remembers the time he first met Jodha, when she was six years old. She arrived at his durbar unannounced, carrying a basket containing an apple tart for him. Jodhaa expressed surprise that the emperor could sit on the floor like common people and thought it impossible for someone as important as him to speak to ordinary folk. Akbar, charmed by her innocence and simplicity, takes her hand and invites her to sit beside him. He notices her dancing in the street with a group of friends, including young Dara Shukoh (Aditya Roy Kapoor). Akbar invites Jodhaa to his durbar and tells her the story of a princess from Chitor. She is destined to marry a prince from a below-middle-class Hindu family. But he will have to renounce his religion to marry her. Jodhaa refuses to do so, although she has bought into the prophecy that she would one day become emperor herself. Unfortunately for Akbar, he has fallen in love with Jodhaa since their first meeting. When Jodhaa's foster mother, Kareeb (Tabu), discovers that she is in love with the emperor, she summons Jodhaa to her home to warn her that Akbar has many wives. She also tells her that she knows of a man who can help them thwart Akbar's efforts. The man is an astrologer who reveals to them that Emperor Akbar will die if he marries Jodhaa after his fiftieth birthday. He suggests to the Queen Mother and the other council members that they should persuade Akbar that marriage with Jodhaa will jeopardise his life. The council members are worried about their own positions if Jodhaa becomes empress after his death. By this time, Akbar is aware of Jodhaa's love for him and he decides to marry her, much to the dismay of the council members. Despite attempts by the council to prevent their marriage, they decide to run away and live as partners. After a few years, Akbar is taken ill and Jodhaa is advised by Dara Shukoh to travel with him back to Agra so she can nurse him back to health. She does not wish for this and has planned a surprise party for him on his return journey after he recovers. On his return home at sunset, Akbar sees their secret garden and lights a lamp in honour of Jodhaa. cfa1e77820
